Q&A on Distributed Software Distribution Project
1. What is the purpose of this project?
Half of the reason is just because of my taste. :-)
However, I wanted to see if it is realistic to have torrent file for
the "download this software here" in the pages devoted to explaining or
introducing some softwares.
2. Why distributed trackers?
Several reasons:
1. I don't have my own tracker server (and it is not easy thing
considering my own circumstances.
2. If I am to do this project, I wanted to do this somewhere I cna
manage.
3. Why Azureus? Can official BitTorrent client support distributed
tracker?
Considering continuous operation, Azureus had useful features (some via
plugins) that can handle management of upload and download speed. It is
also first to support distributed tracker.
Although recently, the official BitTorrent client supports distributed
tracker on their beta version, it is not compatible with Azureus.
Future of this is to be determined by how they wil lbe doing in the
future.
4. What kind of software will be distributed under this project?
We will be distributing open source, freewares, or softwares with
license similar to it. Conditions are the fact that software is
licensed under the license that allows redistribution, the software
does not contain implementation of adware, spyware, and last but not
least, that the software is not a virus, or does not contain
implementation that acts like that.
5. Can I redistribute the torrent file?
Yes, of course!! That's one of
the purpose of this project.
Although it is not mandatory, please
help seed the file as well. That way, we can improve speed of
the distribution.
