The #anime! IRC Extreme Breakfast Race to Victory!
(Title graphic designed by Raider3 (Michael A. Fontes), using Simply 3D from Visual Software.)
The Extreme Race Museum

Warning!
The events and situations depicted in this section of the vision of raider3 were performed by professional #anime! IRC members, and should not be attempted by anyone.

Neither Michael A. Fontes/Studio Calico/Final Raider3 Project, nor Anime.Net condone such activities, and, as such, cannot be held liable for any injuries, loss of life, impairment, or other general bodily harm as a result of anyone being too stupid to pay attention to this! ^O^

The Origin:
Earlier this year on the #anime! IRC channel on EFnet (Before the event known as the Great Split), there were two individuals on the IRC channel #anime! on the EFnet:

Kyousuke - Lionel Lum Vs. Riiyachan - Ethan Lee Forsythe
Kyousuke
Riiyachan
Kyousuke represented Milpitas, California (Pretty close to Silicon Valley ^_^), while Riiyachan represented the pride of Nashville, Tennessee!

The Breakfast Race was relayed LIVE on #anime! on EFnet, Sunday mornings around 7 am Pacific Time. Plans were made to move the race to irc.anime.net, but were never completed, due to the impending crunch time between the last races and Anime Expo, since Kyousuke was on staff, and, of course, created the legendary AX'96 Fifth Anniversary Poster. Soon after, as a result of personal politics, in the wake of the Great Split, Riiyachan left #anime! on EFnet, never to return (he is seen frequently on #anime! on Anime.net)

The Object:
Simply put, the name of the game was a real-time race to McDonald's for breakfast.

Both competitors, logged on to #anime! IRC, would have their cars warmed up and ready, and, on the mark, leave their keyboards in a mad dash for their cars, and head off for a local McDonald's in their respective city and state. Kyousuke's and Riiyachan's routes to their local McD's were similar in distance, but there were a number of obstacles (Stop signs, traffic signals, railroad tracks, etc) to even out the competition factor.

The races lasted about 8 to 10 minutes in real time... The first one to McDonalds and back, signalling their return by tapping keys on their computer keyboard, was declared the winner for that race week.

The Stakes:
The race season ran until around mid-June, 1996 (Prior to Anime Expo.)

The competitor with the most victories was to be treated to special recognition by the loser at Anime Expo '96 (Treated to dinner, or ???) (Note: Actual plans were scrapped, in the collapse of the races, following the Great Split.)

The Standings:
Final Race Results - As of June 2, 1996

Kyousuke: 3 wins
Riiyachan: 5 wins

The Pit Crew:
From March 17, 1996 to June 2, 1996, Raider3 was responsible for logging the race on #anime!, and for declaring the winner. (I was kind of like the Race SysAdmin... Cool! ^_^)

Selected Race Logs:
Log 1 - March 17, 1996
Log 2 - March 31, 1996
Log 3 - April 14, 1996

In Closing:
If anyone gets the idea to start up a new season of races, by all means, let me know - I may even want to be a participant! ^_^

Late-Breaking Update!
I have heard from Riiya that the races will start up again in mid-April of this year! Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available!

Thanks for visiting the museum, and do enjoy your visit to my pages...
